Court told deported woman allegedly stole identity for overseas travel

A 38-year-old St Catherine woman, accused of stealing another woman’s identity to obtain several documents, was reportedly planning to travel overseas.

The revelation was made during Taneicia Reid’s appearance before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday. She is to return on July 12.

Reid, a labourer from Spanish Town, is charged with forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, obtaining a passport by forged documents and making a false declaration.

During the hearing, Senior Judge Desiree Alleyne indicated her intent to expedite the court proceedings.

However, the defence informed the court that Reid had retained new legal representation and needed time to review the disclosed documents.

The judge agreed that another date is required to facilitate that process.

The court learned that Reid, who was deported to Jamaica, allegedly intended to use the fake identity to secure passage abroad.

It’s alleged that original owner of the bio data went to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency to do business but was advised that someone else had the information.

The complainant, who journeyed from St Elizabeth then went to a tax office, where it was revealed that a tax registration number, driver’s license and passport with someone’s else picture already existed.

The police were contacted and Reid was charged following an investigation.
