Cougars alumni golf tournament raises over 0,000 – My Prince George Now

It was another successful Cougars’ Alumni Golf Tournament, raising $242,000 for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

“That is unbelievable,” Aimee Cassie, the CEO of the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, told My PG Now. “We had a record number of alumni attend, we had a record number of sponsors, and I think I can confidently say we are already sold out for next year.”

Confidently, Cassie added this year’s tournament raised well above the average amount.

“That is namely in part to the increased number of alumni as well as on the course fundraising that we did differently,” she explained. “It sees growth every year, there is real momentum behind it.”

The tournament has always supported cardiac care in the north, and this year is no different.

“We have recently opened the cardiac care unit at UHNBC which is just over a million dollars in committed funding from Spirit of the North, thanks in part to the tournament,” Cassie said.

“We have a start with the cardiac care unit opened, but it is just the beginning. We need stronger cardiac care in northern BC and we will be able to do that thanks to the support of the north.”

Cassie extended a large thank you to all the team’s alumni who traveled back to Prince George for the tournament, the tournament sponsors, volunteers, and the team itself.
