Corner Brook Port Signs MOU with CWP Global on Potential Green Hydrogen Project

The Corner Brook Port Corporation has signed an MOU with CWP Global to look at the potential for a green hydrogen project in the city.

The agreement is to look at the potential of Project Gwinya. The Port Corporation describes it as a green hydrogen hub, which would include a hot briquette iron plant at the port.

They say the plant would support the decarbonization of supply chains by processing iron ore into high-quality green iron using green hydrogen.

They believe such a project would elevate the region’s international profile, with the goal of becoming a “symbol for the green transition of heavy industry.”

The corporation says the MOU expresses their intent to support the project, “contingent upon its ability to meet rigorous environmental, social, and economic responsibilities.”

Included in that will be its potential to promote economic growth, create jobs, increase port activity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and ensure the community is actively engaged.

CWP Global are planning to hold public consultations this month on the project.
