Cooling centres in Waterloo Region extends hours

Waterloo Region is still in the grip of a heat wave and as a result, hours are being extended at two local cooling centres to help provide relief to anyone who needs it.

The Region of Waterloo announced Wednesday that two regional buildings will be open for longer than usual this week because of the heat warning.

Until June 21, the cooling centre at 150 Main St. in Cambridge will stay open until 6 p.m.

The cooling centre at 150 Frederick St. in Kitchener will stay open until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and then 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

As of this weekend, 150 Main will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the rest of the summer. That will also be the case at 150 Frederick, starting next weekend.
