Claxton Completes Roster With Addition Of Sanders – Hofstra University Athletics


Hempstead, NY – A strong offseason was completed as Hofstra University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Speedy Claxton put the finishing touches on the Pride’s 2024-25 roster with the addition of guard Jaquan Sanders. 

A native of Far Rockaway, New York, Sanders spent his first two seasons at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. 

“Jaquan is a great addition to our program and the Hofstra community,” mentioned Claxton. “He has played at a high level for two seasons and will really elevate our guard play with his abilities.”

Sanders appeared in 57 games over two seasons with the Pirates. He totaled 145 points, 56 rebounds, 22 assists, nine blocks, and eight steals. He had a season-high 11 points in Seton Hall’s NIT semifinal win over Georgia. 

He attended Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx, New York, and averaged 19 points, 7.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game as a junior 

He was named the New York Player of the Year by MaxPreps following his junior year of high school and “Mr. New York Basketball” by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York after his senior season.
