If you believe that you “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” you can put on some cowboy boots and bring your family for a day of fun at Louisiana Downs.
Louisiana Downs Racetrack and Casino, located at 8000 East Texas St at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Interstate 220 in Bossier City, will honor the life and legacy of late country music artist Toby Keith on July 4.
Toby Keith was a fan of horse racing, so the day will include races named after some of his popular songs, like “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” “American Soldier,” “Red Solo Cup” and more. The races will start at 4:05 p.m. and be followed by more events.
After the races, at 8 p.m., there will also be a free tribute concert after the races called American Soldier: Toby Keith Tribute and a spectacular display of fireworks by Pyromania Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. to round out the events.
Throughout the day, commemorative Red Solo Cups and T-shirts will also be for sale, with the proceeds going to the Toby Keith Foundation. The foundation has been helping children with cancer since 2006, and in 2014, it opened OK Kids Korral in Oklahoma City for families of young pediatric patients who need a place to stay while their child undergoes treatment. Families do not pay anything while staying there.
In the spirit of the holiday being a family event, Louisiana Downs will provide a free kids’ zone and a petting zoo.
Additionally, guests can purchase the best and tastiest bites in the area from food trucks along the racing apron.
“Toby was my friend and my partner in several racehorses,” Louisiana Downs President Kevin Preston said. “There is no better day to celebrate a man who loved his family, horses and the red, white and blue than on the Fourth of July.”
