Canes re-sign Ryan Suzuki to one-year, two-way contract

Carolina Hurricanes interim general manager Erik Tulsky announced that the club has re-signed forward Ryan Suzuki to a one-year, two-way contract. The contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level, with a $90,000 guarantee.

Suzuki spent the 2023-24 regular season in the AHL with the Springfield Thunderbirds where he compiled 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 51 games. Suzuki ranked 10th among Thunderbirds skaters in points.

“Ryan is a highly skilled forward who has made great strides early in his professional career,” said Hurricanes Assistant General Manager Darren Yorke. “We have been continually impressed by his work ethic and persistence, and we are happy to keep him in our organization.”

The 6’0”, 176-pound forward has posted 39 goals and 47 assists for 86 points in 161 career AHL games with Springfield and the Chicago Wolves. He helped the Wolves capture the Calder Cup in 2021-22.

Suzuki was originally drafted No. 28 overall in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Hurricanes. Prior to his pro career, he spent time in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit. Suzuki tallied 57 goals and 120 assists for 177 points in 173 career games. The London, Ontario, native represented Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, collecting two goals and four points in seven games, and winning a silver medal.
