Canadian billionaire and auto-parts magnate Frank Stronach has been arrested and charged in a sexual assault investigation, Peel Regional Police said on Friday.

In a news release, police allege the sexual assaults spanned from the 1980s to as recent as 2023. Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah confirmed to The Globe and Mail that the accused in the case is Mr. Stronach, though he otherwise declined to comment on the case.

Police said in the news release that Mr. Stronach, 91, was arrested and charged with five criminal offences: rape, indecent assault on a female, two counts of sexual assault and forcible confinement.

They say Mr. Stronach has been released on conditions and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, Ont., at a later date.

Neither Mr. Stronach nor representatives for his companies could be reached.
