It was a calm week in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred and Top 3-Year-Old Polls, with the only notable change being Skelly replaced by Saudi Crown for 10th following his slow-start defeat in the Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs June 1.
However, the leaderboard is likely to be shaken up this weekend, as the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival will take place at Saratoga Race Course.
Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan has retained the top spot on the 3-year-old poll since his signature victory, but a June 8 Belmont Stakes (G1) rematch with Derby runner-up Sierra Leone , second in the poll, and Preakness (G1) winner Seize the Grey , third in the poll, could alter their placements.
In addition, 10th-ranked Wood Memorial winner Resilience will participate in the Belmont, as will Honor Marie , Antiquarian , and Mindframe , who are in the “others receiving votes” category to rank 13th, 14th, and 15th, respectively.
Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Thorpedo Anna ranks seventh but could increase her positioning if she can follow up the Oaks with another score in the June 7 Acorn Stakes (G1).
In the overall Thoroughbred poll, second-ranked champion Idiomatic could potentially claim the spot from Senor Buscador with a superb performance in the Ogden Phipps Stakes(G1) on the Belmont Stakes undercard.
Meanwhile, third-ranked National Treasure and seventh-ranked White Abarrio will face off in the Metropolitan Handicap (G1).
With nine grade 1s and 14 graded stakes for flat horses during the festival, the rankings could see major changes for week 20.
