BREAKING: 4-star in-state DL Christian Garrett commits to Georgia football

This Sentell’s Intel rep on Georgia football recruiting has the latest with 4-star DL Christian Garrett. He ranks as the nation’s No. 15 DL and the No. 128 overall prospect for 2025 on the 247Sports Composite. The On3 Industry Ranking has him as the No. 10 and at No. 128 overall.

Christian Garrett decided he couldn’t wait any longer after his official visit to UGA this weekend.

In the midst of it, the Prince Avenue Christian DL felt it. When he had a sitdown meeting with Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott, he decided he had something he needed to pray about.

When he did, he said it just felt right.

The 4-star DL made the move this evening to commit to UGA and join the 2025 class. He becomes the 11th public commitment for the 2025 class in Athens.

Georgia beat out Clemson, Georgia Tech and Tennessee for this decision.

Garrett told DawgNation on Sunday night that this would shut down his recruiting. He’s called the other schools recruiting him and canceled his scheduled official visits.

He said he plans to take no more college visits except that quick 10-mile trip from Bogart to Athens.

“Georgia has everything I want as a player and everything me and my family wants as a player,” he said. “I always wanted to go there. It has been a childhood dream. This has been my favorite team since childhood. You can’t go wrong with it.”

With that decision, the Bulldogs move to 11 commitments for the class with a lot more momentum decisions on the way.

“They are getting a combo end and they also are going to get my all, too,” Garrett said.

Garrett won the Georgia High School Association Class 1A state shot put title earlier this year. He’s already been a part of three state championship football teams at Prince Avenue Christian with the Wolverines.

He had established a July 20 commitment date. The 4-star DL took his first official visit to Clemson last week and had trips planned later this month to see Georgia Tech and Tennessee.

Not anymore.

“I’m shutting everything down,” Garrett said. “I felt that I always wanted to go there and they just opened my eyes to a lot more stuff. I just really felt like it was the move so I just did it. I prayed about it and I did it.”

He told the Georgia coaches earlier today. Coach Scott was first.

“He was like ‘Let’s go baby’ and he was lit,” Garrett said. “He got up, dapped me up and said ‘I can’t wait to start developing you here’ and when I told Kirby he jumped up, gave me a high-five and a hug. I’m just excited to get over there now.”

The nation’s No. 15 DL had a unique way of looking at it throughout his recruiting process.

“My mind was always Georgia at the top,” Garrett said. “My number one sport fluctuated but Georgia was always at the top and the reason keeping me from committing to another school. So I thought in my mind, if Georgia is high enough and impactful enough to keep me from committing to another school then why not commit to Georgia when I had always wanted to go there.”

Garrett is an impressive prospect. He played through a torn labrum last fall and had shoulder surgery shortly after Prince Avenue won its third straight GHSA title.

He then bounced back during track season. He was determined to win a state championship in the shot put this spring after finishing as runner-up in 2023.

His doctors cleared him right before the region meet and he went to Rome to claim the GHSA Class 1A state shot put title.
