Brazil creates over 130,000 formal jobs in May | TV BRICS, 28.06.24


Brazil created 131,811 official job openings in May 2024.


These results are contained in the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged), published by the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment (MTE).


The positive balance in May this year was the result of 2,116,326 hires and 1,984,515 layoffs nationwide. This is reported by
Metropoles, a partner of TV BRICS.


Of the 27 states, 26 saw an increase, while only Rio Grande do Sul, a state in a state of public disaster due to floods, saw a decrease. 


Across the country, all five major economic activity groups recorded surpluses. The largest increase in official employment in May was in the services sector with 69,309 jobs created, followed by the agriculture sector with 19,836 new jobs. This was followed by construction (+18,149), industry (+18,149) and trade (+6,375).
