‘Brats’: What Do 1980s Brat Pack Stars Look Like Today?

Brats director Andrew McCarthy catches up with some of his Brat Pack co-stars from the 1980s in his new Hulu documentary. Some of members of the Brat Pack embraced the invitation to be interviewed for the documentary while others declined.

The Brat Pack is the name New York Magazine writer David Blum gave to a group of young actors who starred in several hit movies together in the 1980s.

The Brat Pack era officially began in 1983 with the releases of the movies The Outsiders and Class and the group grew from there. In the next seven years, one or more members of the Brat Pack appeared together in such movies as Sixteen Candles and Oxford Blues in 1984, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire in 1985 and Pretty in Pink and About Last Night … in 1986.

Here’s a look at what the members of the Brat Pack look like today.

Molly Ringwald

Molly Ringwald, 56, may be the star most-identified with the Brat Pack movies of the 1980s.

Ringwald’s Brat Pack movie roles include Sixteen Candles as Samantha Baker, The Breakfast Club as Claire Standish, Pretty in Pink as Andie Walsh and Jewel in 1988’s Fresh Horses.

Ringwald also starred as Betsy in Betsy’s Wedding in 1990, which is also considered a Brat Pack movie.

Ringwald declined to be interviewed for Brats but is featured in archive footage.

Emilio Estevez

Emilio Estevez, 62 starred in four Brat Pack movies.

Estevez’s Brat Pack roles include Keith “Two-Bit” Matthews in The Outsiders, Andrew Clark in The Breakfast Club, Kirby Keager in St. Elmo’s Fire and John Wisdom in 1986’s Wisdom.

Estevez is interviewed in Brats.

Judd Nelson, 64, appeared in three Brat Pack movies in the 1980s.

Nelson’s Brat Pack roles include John Bender in The Breakfast Club, Alec Newbury in St. Elmo’s Fire and Billy Turner in 1986’s Blue City.

Nelson declined to be interviewed for Brats but is featured in archive footage.

Andrew McCarthy

Andrew McCarthy, 61, starred in four Brat Pack movies.

McCarthy played Jonathan Ogner in Class, Kevin Dolenz in St. Elmo’s Fire, Blane McDonnagh in Pretty in Pink and Matt Larkin in Fresh Horses.

McCarthy also directs and appears in Brats. He recently discussed the documentary during a panel conversation that included Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy and Jon Cryer after the film’s premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

Demi Moore

Demi Moore, 61, starred in three Brat Pack movies.

Moore played Julianna “Jules” Van Patten in St. Elmo’s Fire, Debbie Sullivan in About Last Night … and Karen Simmons in Wisdom.

Moore is interviewed in Brats and appeared on the Tribeca panel.

Rob Lowe

Rob Lowe, 60, starred in the five Brat Pack movies.

His roles include Sodapop Patrick Curtis in The Outsiders, Franklin “Skip” Burroughs IV in Class, Nick De Angelo in Oxford Blues, Billy Hicks in St. Elmo’s Fire and Danny Martin in About Last Night …

Lowe is interviewed in Brats.

Ally Sheedy, 62, starred in five Brat Pack movies.

Sheedy plays Rona in Oxford Blues, Allison Reynolds in The Breakfast Club, Leslie Hunter in St. Elmo’s Fire, Annie Rayford in Blue City and Connie in Betsy’s Wedding.

Sheedy is interviewed in Brats and appeared on the Tribeca panel.

Anthony Michael Hall

Anthony Michael Hall, 56, starred in two Brat Pack movies in the 1980s.

He played the Geek in Sixteen Candles and Brian Johnson in The Breakfast Club.

Hall is not interviewed in Brats but is featured in archive footage.

Jon Cryer

While not officially a member of the Brat Pack, Jon Cryer appeared in one of the group’s movies.

Cryer starred as Phil “Duckie” Dale in Pretty in Pink opposite Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy.

Cryer is interviewed in Brats and appeared on the Tribeca panel.

Mare Winningham

Like Jon Cryer, Mare Winningham is not officially a member of the Brat Pack.

Winningham, however, played Wendy Beamish opposite Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Rob Lowe in St. Elmo’s Fire.

Winningham is not interviewed in Brats but is featured in archive footage.

Brats is streaming exclusively on Hulu.
