Blast rocks pump house at Royal Oak golf course
An early-morning explosion heavily damaged a pump house at the Red Run Golf Club in Royal Oak.
Royal Oak Fire Capt. Sean Wilson said firefighters were called to the golf club at 6 a.m. Thursday on a report of a blast and fire at the building, which houses sprinkler equipment.
Wilson said firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and no one was injured. The explosion knocked the pump house off its foundation.
“One of the walls of the building was blown out, so it will likely have to be rebuilt,” he said.
The cause of the explosion in the pump house, which has no natural gas service, is being investigated.
The facility has a reverse osmosis system “and it may have had some maintenance issues,” Wilson said. “It was likely a pressure issue.”
Operations at the rest of the private golf club, on South Rochester Road just north of 12 Mile, were unaffected by the blast.
