Sewage dumped on road

A couple of bikers out for a ride in East Kelowna on Sunday came nose to nose with a smelly situation.

Karla Ingbritson says she was biking up McKenzie and Swainson Road around noon when she spotted a fifth wheel dumping human waste on the road where they were biking.

“We were cycling on the road and he was dumping it beside us as we went up the hill,” she said.

Ingbritson believes this wasn’t an isolated incident, she believes the individual had previously engaged in illegal sewage dumping in the area.

“You could see it had been done before because the road was brown. The rain hadn’t even washed it away. It was bad… the smell… people were gagging.”

The Kelowna resident says she was worried someone was going to fall off their bike.

“It’s dangerous when it is slick like that. There were bikes coming down the hill. It’s hugely dangerous.”

Ingbritson says she took photos of the incident and the license plate and has reported it to bylaw.

“He drove right by us and you could just see it coming out, and then every turn he hit it was coming out. It was bad. It was really, really bad,” she added.

Castanet has reached out to Kelowna Bylaw for more details.
