Big Rig Crashes Near Whitbourne in Early-Morning Fog and Darkness

RCMP and area firefighters rushed to the scene of a crash near Whitbourne on the Trans-Canada Highway early this morning.

A tractor-trailer went off the highway in foggy conditions just before dawn, about 10 kilometres east of Whitbourne, ending up on its side along the TCH.

The driver escaped with minor injuries.

In a note to media, the Whitbourne Fire Department said motorists should slow down in the area and expect delays in the eastbound lanes.

The rig also took out a light pole, resulting in power outages affecting about 2,200 people in the area.

Power was expected to be restored by 7 a.m.

Meanwhile, there were no serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash on the Salmonier Line Tuesday afternoon.

A vehicle went off the road and slammed into a light pole.
