Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel (BBBS) held their 18th annual “Golf Fore Kids’ Sake” tournament last weekend at Quesnel golf club.
The tournament had 73 golfers and raised over $23,000. The registration fee for golfers was $125 and they could pay themselves or collect donations from the community to fund their registration.
“The money that was raised goes to all our mentoring programs we offer in the community. All the money that’s raised in Quesnel, stays in Quesnel,” said Joanie Newman, the executive director of BBBS of Quesnel.
After the tournament ended BBBS held a dinner for the golfers where prizes were given out.
“We do in-school mentoring, we do community mentoring. We also do different other programs but mostly just the mentoring at the moment,” Newman said.
BBBS Quesnel has 10 mentor-mentee matches with 20 more youth on the waitlist. Newman said the matching process is usually done by weighing the likes and dislikes of the mentee.

The organization started its West Jet raffle where members of the community can buy tickets for a chance to win any scheduled West Jet flight. Tickets can be bought at their office located at 336 Front Street for $10, the draw will be on Oct. 31st.
Newman said she appreciates everyone who took part in the tournament from the hole sponsors, to the golfers to the volunteers.
