Belmont Stakes 2024: The field of 10 is set

A field of 10 for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes at Saratoga is set, though post positions won’t be drawn until Monday evening.
As expected, trainer Kenny McPeek opted to enter Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, with Brian Hernandez Jr. in the saddle again. The Goldencents colt was second by 2 1/4 lengths in the Preakness.
The winner of the Preakness, Seize the Gray, also will line up Saturday, with Jaime Torres riding. The 25-year-old also rode the son of Arrogate to a win in the Pat Day Mile (G2).
Trainer Chad Brown entered Sierra Leone, winner of the Grade 1 Blue Grass before his runner-up effort in the Kentucky Derby. Flavien Prat will have the mount.
Others from the Kentucky Derby who will run in the Belmont are Resilience, who was sixth in the Derby; Honor Marie, who was eighth; and Dornoch, 10th.
The top three finishers in the Peter Pan (G3) also are in the field. Winner Antiquarian is one of three entries by Todd Pletcher and will be ridden by John Velazquez, who also rode him in the May 11 Peter Pan.
Another Pletcher entry is the only one in the field who has not run in a graded stakes. Antiquarian, a Constitution colt, won his debut at Gulfstream in March and then led gate to wire to win an optional-claiming allowance on the Kentucky Derby undercard. Irad Ortiz Jr. was aboard for both starts, and he will ride him again Saturday.
