There have been a few changes over the past couple of weeks at the Southampton Golf and Country Club, particularly in the pro shop.
Derek Johnston has taken over as Manager of the pro shop while Carter Snowden has decided to move on to other challenges in the golf world.
Our greens Superintendent, Nicole Hillier and her crew have being doing a fantastic job on the course and members are commenting on the great condition everything is in.
Senior Men’s Golf News
We’ll play a little catch up here as there are two weeks of golf to report. On May 21, Derek Johnston shot 39 to win First Low Gross in the A-flight while Kent McVeigh had a great round, shooting 43 and claiming Second Low Gross. Harold Agla, our ageless member who continues to shoot or beat his age every year, won First Low Net with a net 38, followed by Jim Angel with a net 39.
In the B-flight, Mike Hendrich shot 44 to win First Low Gross, two strokes ahead of Charie Schmalz who carded a 46 and won Second Low Gross in the flight. Peter Welford won First Low Net with a net score of 36, followed by Ron Wilson with a net 38. Charlie Schmalz won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole and Terry Bailey sunk the Longest Putt on #6.

On May 28, there was on and off rain throughout the day, and many members decided to stay home and avoid getting wet. So, the prizes were limited to one flight.
Jim Angel was the best player of the day, shooting 39 on the front nine holes and winning First Low Gross. Jim was one stroke ahead of Hugh Morrison who won Second Low Gross with his score of 40. Paul Leader won First Low Net with a net 35, one stroke ahead of Lorne Lazenby with a net 36. Leader also won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole and Lazenby sunk the Longest Putt on #7.

On May 23, in the Thursday Men’s League, new member Brian Midghall won First Low Gross in the A-flight with a score of three over par 38 on the front nine.
Bruce Towner shot 41 and took Second Low Gross in the flight, while Derek Johnston and Jim Angel tied for First Low Net with net scores of 37.
In the B-flight, Dan Silenzi shot 42 and won First Low Gross while Bill Hatt won Second Low Gross with a 46. Doug Hamilton won First Low Net with a net 34, followed by Rick Fletcher with a net 37. Bruce Towner sunk the Longest Putt on the sixth hole.

On May 30, Keith LeFevre, our reigning club champion turned in a two over par 37 to win First Low Gross in the A-flight. Derryl Urstadt was only one stroke back, shooting 38 and claiming Second Low Gross. Jim Angel, a familiar name in the A-flight, won First Low Net with a net score of 34 while Keith Boshart had a net 37 and won Second Low Net in the flight. In the B-flight, Gord Wright won First Low Gross with a score of 44, followed by Jim Martin with a 45, good for Second Low Gross. Doug Hamilton won First Low Net again with a net score of 35, followed by Rick Fletcher and Mike O’Donahue, both with net scores of 36. Derry Urstadt was Closest to the Pin on the ninth hole and Derek Johnston sunk the Longest Putt on #7.
The FedEex competition, which is open to all players in the Senior’s and Men’s Leagues, started the first week of June – results will be posted next week.
