A one-sided 70th City/County All-Star football game but it’s about ‘one last ride’
The 70th City/County All-Star high school football game Friday night was one-sided with the County winning 35-7 at McLane Stadium.
Central’s David Marquez got it going for the County when he scored on a 42-yard run.
The County, coached by Kerman’s Damon Jenkins, never let up after City took a quick lead on Mario Cosma’s 10-yard run.
The County scored the next three touchdowns to put the game away for good.
Regardless of the outcome, players from both sides enjoyed being part of the game.
Wide receiver Noel Felix, who had a 7-yard touchdown reception from Max Warkentin, said it was a blessing to be with other players especially after his cousin Charles Bailey played in the game in 2022.
“I’m blessed,” said Felix, who will play at Fresno City College. “I thank God. I’m honored and privileged. Just super excited to be here.”
Linebacker Bransen Peters of Coalinga said it’s “also a blessing” to play in the annual all-star game.
He said he had dreamed of playing in the game since he was a child.
“Kind of a surreal moment,” he said. “It’s amazing to work with the guys that I used to go against. To be able to bond with those guys going forward.”
Said Clovis North’s James Cazares: “It’s an honor being able to come out, one last ride with my boys. We did our best and tried our best.”
Andrew Pancotti of McLane was the City coach.
