‘Unhealthy Attraction’: Charley Hull & Her Lifestyle Yet Again Echoes Golf World Despite Winless Streak

Charley Hull has once again taken over the headlines, and not because she has won any event. Just a month ago, the Kettering native was the talk of the town in the golf world as her John Daly-esque moment at the U.S. Women’s Open was captured. It showed Hull smoking a cigarette without using her hands as she signed a few autographs for fans.

Something similar has happened again, and Hull’s pictures from the scene have made it to social media. At the Dow Championship, the 28-year-old was paired with her best friend, Georgia Hall, and they finished T5 in the one-of-a-kind LPGA Tour team event.

From one round of the event, Hull was captured looking as stunning as she always has while smoking a cigarette. NUCLR Golf posted a few pictures on X (formerly Twitter) and, to appreciate Hull, captioned it, “icon” of the women’s circuit.

The post quickly caught the attention of the golf world, and in more words than before, fans started complimenting the LPGA star a ton. Well, this is not the first time Hull has gone viral for smoking.

A month ago, a swarm of children clamoring for autographs approached her. Can you please sign this?! Hull did not hesitate before walking over to the group of kids, Sharpie in hand. Her lit cigarette hung from her lips the entire time. The video quickly gained momentum. As individuals shared and re-shared the video, the views grew. “It’s actually quite funny,” Hull said. “All over a cigarette, I suppose.”

However, while many loved her being risqué at the Dow Championship, some did not approve of Hull’s smoking so outwardly.

Due to her consistent social media presence, Charley Hull has attracted a plethora of fans who support her through thick and thin. Despite many critics of her ordinary performance, these devoted fans come forth for her at any time. As Hull’s modelesque pictures were released, one viewer admiringly said, “I have an unhealthy attraction to Charley.”

Hull isn’t the only pro to smoke on the course. Although only John Daly has made headlines for his smoking habits, a few other prominent names also smoked on the greens, including Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan. Sharing a photo of Palmer and Hogan smoking at a tee box at Augusta National, one viewer compared Hull to them, saying it gives the “Same energy.” 

It is not just about Hull smoking that spectators are enamored with; they also love her cadence while doing anything, even when she is sitting and looking out. The way the English pro carries herself, which is carefree at times, has inspired many fans in golf. One fan complimented Hull, saying, “I want her and want to be her.”

While many were cheering for the 28-year-old pro, there were a few who didn’t like her smoking. Showing their disdain, one user said, “Smoking is gross.” In the past, Hull had been criticized for smoking as it was a “huge turn off.” Because of this, some even contemplated her qualification for the Paris Olympics and questioned how she could go as a smoker. Another fan reciprocated a similar opinion, saying Hull’s smoking was “Nasty af.”
