The prize money will be distributed equally among all the 15 members of the India squad, with each player getting 8.33 crores. India had an astounding run in the T20 World Cup and won the tournament undefeated. They beat tournament favourites like Pakistan, Australia, England, and South Africa to get their hands on the trophy.
“It fills me with great pride to speak about such an extraordinary team. However, it is this team that has made us all proud with their dedication, hard work, and unyielding spirit. Led by Rohit Sharma, and ably assisted by Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others they have fulfilled the dreams and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians,” said Shah in a statement
“I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement,” Jay Shah wrote on X.
The BCCI secretary was very optimistic about Team India winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Even before the tournament started, Shah predicted India to win the T20 World Cup 2024.
“Everyone has been waiting for my statement on the World Cup. In 2023, India did not win the World Cup after winning 10 matches straight, but we won hearts,” Shah said. “I want to make a promise that, in 2024, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India will win the T20 World Cup in Barbados,” Shah declared at an event in February.
Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup marked the end of an era as veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20Is.
