Draymond Green backs Bronny James to succeed in the NBA
The Los Angeles Lakers drafted Bronny James with the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft. He will now form one-half of the league’s first father-and-son duo alongside LeBron James. However, questions surround Bronny’s ability to succeed at the NBA level.
In a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” the four-time NBA Champion backed Bronny to prove himself as a rotation player in the NBA within two years.
“I am just gonna take the bet that this kid works hard, which he does. He has LeBron James DNA and I am gonna take the bet on that … and then you watch him play, he is a good basketball player,” Green said. Imma take that bet because you got him at 55, so if he even becomes a rotational player, you did great, and I think he could possibly become a rotational player in the next two years.”
Bronny will likely face a battle to crack JJ Redick’s rotation in the upcoming season. However, he will likely get opportunities to prove himself throughout the season.
Furthermore, he fills a position of need for the Lakers, who have been looking for a reliable ball-handler off the bench in recent years. LeBron will likely ensure his son gets enough playing time to develop and prove himself at the NBA level.
Nevertheless, Bronny will face significant pressure from the media. His performances and Redick’s handling of the situation will be scrutinized. The Lakers must balance developing the young talent with shielding him from the never-ending media merry-go-round.
Green’s comments were clearly made to uplift and protect Bronny. He will understand the level of scrutiny the young talent is receiving. But Bronny is likely used to this type of spotlight. It comes with being the son of arguably the greatest player in NBA history.
Still, if Bronny can prove himself as an NBA rotation player and carve out a long career in the league, the Lakers will be applauded for finding success with a late-round draft pick.
For now, though, the media will be watching closely.
