Governor General Mary Simon announced 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada this week. Among them is a notable figure from Newfoundland and Labrador.
Captain Sid Hynes has been named a Member of the Order of Canada. A master mariner and a prominent entrepreneur in the marine transportation and offshore oil industries, Hynes co-founded Canship Ugland Limited and managed vessels worldwide. He currently serves as the executive chair of Oceanex Inc., a key player in east coast transportation.
Established in 1967, the Order of Canada honours outstanding achievements and contributions.
