Disc golf finds home in Pitt Meadows

Disc golfers will soon have a permanent place to play their beloved sport in Pitt Meadows, as the city recently announced its plans to build a course at Bonson Park.

This decision comes after the city created a one-day pop-up disc golf course at the park last August, which saw more than 130 people participate in the event.

“The success of the pop-up disc golf event held in 2023 at Bonson Park highlighted the desire and interest within our community for a dedicated disc golf course,” said City of Pitt Meadows parks manager Andy Messner.

“Disc golf is affordable to start, free to play, and offers an opportunity for all ages to be outdoors and get some exercise in our parks. The new course – set with eight holes – will be designed to fit the park’s space while minimizing impact on current park amenities.”

Creating the new course will result in much of the park being closed off to the public for several months, with an anticipated opening date of sometime this fall.

Anyone living along Bonson Park will not have to worry about projectiles coming into their yards, with the city confirming that all of the disc golf holes are being strategically placed within the centre of the park so as to avoid having discs thrown towards the homes or fence lines.

Another major concern voiced to the city was the potential impact the new course would have on the popular sledding hill at Bonson Park. However, the City of Pitt Meadows explained that the location of the disc golf holes will not affect the sledding hill.

Construction on the new eight-hole course has already begun and will continue until September, with the playground and walking path remaining open during this period.
