The 15 players selected for the USA Men’s Basketball Select Team, including Duke star Cooper Flagg

One of the most interesting parts of the pre-Olympic process for USA Basketball is seeing who does (and doesn’t!) make it on the Team USA’s Select Team.

The Select Team is exactly what it sounds like — it’s a group of players hand-picked by Team USA basketball that basically serve as a practice squad for the main team.

Typically, it doesn’t include the All-Stars that we’ve known for years. Instead, it’s usually filled with up-and-coming players from around the NBA plus a few who might’ve been playing outside the league but were part of the international process.

And, sometimes, the team includes some of the country’s biggest stars in college basketball. That’s exactly what we have here. Team USA announced to Select Team earlier and the names did not disappoint.

Here’s a look at all 15 players on this year’s Select Team for Team USA Basketball, including college basketball’s brightest star, Cooper Flagg.

Current team: Fenerbahçe, Turkey

Hayes-Davis did a quick stint in the NBA, appearing in games for the Raptors, Lakers and Kings back during the 2017-18 season. He plays in Turkey for Fenerbahçe these days.

Potter is currently with the Utah Jazz and has played a few minutes here and there for the team. He previously played for the Pistons in 2022.

Langston Galloway is currently a free agent in the NBA. He hasn’t played in the league since his last stint with the Bucks during the 2021-22 season but played on Team USA’s FIBA World Cup qualifier team in 2023.

Current team: Miami Heat

The final Rookie of the Year tally didn’t quite reflect it, but Jaime Jaquez was one of the most impactful rookies in the NBA last season for a Miami Heat team with big aspirations.

Current team: Golden State Warriors

It should come as no surprise that the Warriors rookie made the Select Team. He was one of the best rookie big men in the league last season outside of Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. Plus, it certainly helps that is head coach is currently helping run Team USA.

Current team: Charlotte Hornets

In a normal season without Wemby or Holmgren, Brandon Miller probably wins Rookie of the Year pretty easily. He projects out as one of the better scorers in the NBA moving forward.

Current team: New Orleans Pelicans

Seeing Trey Murphy here is an absolute delight. He’s still so raw as a talent for the Pelicans, but he’s already one of the better wing shooters in the NBA. Getting him some experience against the world’s best players should be incredibly helpful.

Current Team: Golden State Warriors

The same thing said about Trayce Jackson-Davis could be said about Podziemski here. He was one of the best rookies in the league last season and played big minutes for a Golden State team that desperately needed him every step of the way.

Current team: Boston Celtics

Payton Pritchard is an NBA champion and has been a staple off the bench for the Celtics for years now.

Current team: Houston Rockets

Jabari Smith Jr. improved last season offensively and has continued to blossom into one of the best 3-and-D big men in the NBA. He’s got tons of versatility. He’ll show that off against Team USA in their practices.

Current team: Houston Rockets

Amen Thompson is the Rockets’ swiss army knife. He can play point and handle the ball, but when he’s rolling to the rim? You’d better watch out. He’ll dunk on your head.

Current team: Duke Blue Devils

Flagg is the current projected No. 1 overall prospect for the 2025 NBA Draft and will play for Duke next season. He’s a special talent who should only improve from his experience with the Select Team here.
