Men’s Basketball signs Arthur Kaluma – University of Texas Athletics

AUSTIN, Texas — Arthur Kaluma has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Rodney Terry announced Friday. Kaluma, who spent last season at Kansas State University and the two previous years at Creighton University, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Kaluma (6-7, 225), a forward from Glendale, Arizona, has played in 101 career games (99 starts) and registered 1,233 points (12.2 ppg) and 619 rebounds (6.1 rpg) in 3,055 minutes (30.2 mpg) over the last three seasons at Kansas State (2023-24) and Creighton (2021-23). He has converted 43.1-percent (423-982) from the floor and 72.8-percent (268-368) from the free throw line during his first three collegiate seasons. Kaluma has reached double figures in scoring 68 times in his career, including ten 20-point efforts, and reached double digits in rebounding nine times while posting eight career double-doubles. He has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.

During his junior season in 2023-24 at K-State, Kaluma played in 33 games (32 starts) and led the team in rebounding (7.0 rpg) and ranked third in scoring (14.4 ppg), assists (67), steals (27) and minutes (34.5 mpg) while helping the Wildcats post a 19-15 mark and advance to the NIT First Round. An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, he converted 42.7-percent (153-358) from the floor, including a 34.5-percent (51-148) mark from three-point range, and 74.7-percent (118-158) from the free throw during the year. Kaluma was one of just four Big 12 players to rank in the top-15 in both scoring (13th) and rebounding (fifth), joining Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar Jr. and TCU’s Emanuel Miller. He reached double figures in scoring a team-high 28 times, including six 20-point performances, and tallied five double-doubles on the season. A two-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week selection (Jan. 22 and Feb. 16), Kaluma was named one of five USBWA National Players of the Week (Dec. 12) and the Big 12 Player of the Week (Dec. 11) after averaging 21.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg while hitting 76.2-percent (16-21) from the floor during the wins over Villanova (Dec. 5) and at LSU (Dec. 9). He tallied a career-high 28 points (8-11 FG, 10-12 FT) and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes against BYU (Feb. 24).

As a sophomore in 2022-23 at Creighton, Kaluma started all 37 games and ranked third on the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and blocked shots (21), fourth in assists (61) and fifth in scoring (11.8 ppg) and minutes (29.4 mpg) while helping the Bluejays to a 24-13 record and the school’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. He converted 42.3-percent (146-345) from the floor and 73.6-percent (103-140) from the free throw line on the year. Kaluma reached double digits in scoring 26 times, including a pair of 20-point performances, and registered two double-doubles. He had a season-high 27 points (8-14 FG, 4-7 threes) against BYU (Dec. 10) and added 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds at No. 4 Connecticut (Jan. 7).

During his freshman year in 2021-22 at Creighton, Kaluma played in 31 of 35 games (30 starts) and paced the Bluejays to a 23-12 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. He was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman and All-Tournament teams and twice claimed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades (Feb. 14 and March 6). Kaluma ranked second on the team in blocks (18), third in rebounding (5.4 rpg) and fifth in scoring (10.4 ppg) and minutes (26.8 mpg) while hitting 44.4-percent (124-279) from the floor and 67.1-percent (47-70) from the free throw line on the year. He reached double figures in scoring 14 times, including a pair of 20-point efforts. Kaluma registered a season-high 24 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to No. 3 Kansas (March 19) in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.

Kaluma played his senior year of high school in 2020-21 at Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona. A consensus top-50 national recruit, he was tabbed No. 48 by ESPN and No. 49 by 247 Sports in the Class of 2021 national rankings. Kaluma averaged a team-best 24.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals while converting 52.5-percent from the floor during his senior season. He reached double figures in scoring in all 19 games, including eight 20-point performances, four 30-point efforts and one 40-point game. Kaluma posted a season-high 40 points at Tennessee Prep (Dec. 16) and had 39 points at Colorado Prep (Feb. 25). Prior to his senior year at Dream City, he spent time at Universal Academy in Irving, Texas.
