Boy, 3, dies in crosswalk after being hit by truck in southwest Edmonton

The family had been walking east across Allard Road in the marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when the boy was struck down by the truck as it turned left onto Allard Boulevard, police said.

Emergency Medical Services responded, but the boy died at the scene.

The 39-year-old mother and her seven-year-old daughter were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“It’s devastating,” Edmonton Police Service Chief Dale McFee told reporters Friday morning.

“First and foremost, our condolences and thoughts and prayers to the family. I can’t even imagine what they’re going through.

“Words can’t express … We just think the toll (it takes), whether it’s the officers, the first responders or witnesses responding to that. A lot of them have young kids, too. My thoughts are exclusively with the family.”
