Why Zeeland East basketball player BJ Walker committed to Grand Valley State

BJ Walker has been a scoring machine for the Zeeland East boys basketball team the past two seasons.

He has been an all-conference performer at guard for the past two years, scoring 15.7 points per game after averaing close to 20 as a sophomore.

With a senior year to go, Walker has committed to play basketball at Grand Valley State University.

”After going to a countless camps and meetings. Their coaches and team were the best fit for me,” Walker said. “I’m excited to continue my educational and basketball career close to home, but also reaching for the sky for the future.”

Walker also averaged 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game, showing his all-around ability on both sides of the ball.

He knows that becoming a part of an NCAA Division II program will transform his game.

“I know these coaches will push me to be the best I can be,” he said. “A lot of exciting things happening for this program.”

But first, Walker has one more season with the Chix.

“BJ was coming off of a very impressive sophomore season in which he established himself as one of the best players in the area. With that came defenses focused on stopping him and he was still able to produce at an extremely high level,” Zeeland East coach Jeff Carlson said. “He is able to play around the rim, on the perimeter, and his ability to handle the ball and create opportunities in transition where his athletic ability allows him to create for not only himself but his teammates as well.”
