Newport’s International Tennis Hall of Fame to undergo major renovation
The International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport has announced a multimillion-dollar transformation to enhance the museum.
Renovations will begin in November, with the museum closed to the public until a planned reopening in May 2025 and will be funded by a portion of the Tennis Forever Capital Campaign, according to a press release from the ITHF.
Following a selective process, a Nashville-based experiential design firm, Advent, was selected to lead the renovations that will make the museum more interactive and modern while still maintaining the sport’s history.
“We are very honored to accomplish this for the Hall of Fame,” said Dan Faber, CEO of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, in the press release. “We want to preserve what’s already out there with the incredible history of tennis but to prepare for global eyes to be a part of this in Newport. It’s perfect timing with this era of who is going to be inducted over the next five years or so in tennis.”
In the first museum renovation since 2015, the work will include:
- Hall of Famers’ Gallery featuring each honoree represented by a new case racquet and a Hall of Famers’ Lounge event space for inductees and guests
- The Celebration Gallery with stories of tennis legends across generations in addition to a new Augmented Reality Sculpture
- The Roger Federer Hologram as an immersive experience
- Newport Tennis Traditions gallery celebrating Newport’s tennis history alongside a display for the US Open trophies
- A reconstructed Museum Retail store and Welcome Center
The venue will host its annual Infosys Hall of Fame Open next month, and will feature Alexander Bublik, Adrian Mannarino and Reilly Opelka, among others. The tournament will take place July 14-21.
