ASP Disputes FFAW’s Claims on Capelin Fishery

The Executive Director of the Association of Seafood Producers is calling an assertion from the FFAW that some companies are breaking away from ASP by signing a deal with the union on capelin prices as “utter nonsense.”

Yesterday, the FFAW issued a statement saying that five companies had signed a “breakaway deal” with them to pay what they believe is a fair price for capelin, above what was set out by the Fish Price Setting Panel earlier this year.

When asked about companies breaking away from the association, Jeff Loder said “nothing could be further from the truth.”

He says the panel set a minimum price. Some producers have chosen to pay more than that, which is within their right.
