FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas men’s basketball great Oliver Miller will be inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame in August.
Miller was announced Monday as the Razorbacks’ selection for the SWC Hall of Fame. This year’s class includes one member from nine former SWC schools.
Inductees from the eight other schools are Alfred Anderson (Baylor), Jason Phillips (Houston), Claudia Haywood Minor (Rice), John Ross (SMU), Sherri Steinhauer (Texas), Tony Franklin (Texas A&M), Janice Dziuk (TCU) and Brad Hastings (Texas Tech).
The induction ceremony and luncheon are scheduled for Aug. 13 at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, which is on the Baylor University campus in Waco. Miller grew up in nearby Fort Worth.
Miller helped the Razorbacks to a 115-24 record during his career from 1988-92. He was part of conference championship teams all four seasons at Arkansas under Naismith Hall of Fame coach Nolan Richardson.
The Razorbacks won three Southwest Conference titles from 1989-91 and were the 1992 SEC champions in their inaugural season as a league member. Arkansas advanced to the 1990 NCAA Final Four.
Miller, who was nicknamed “Big O,” played the center position alongside guards Lee Mayberry and Todd Day. He was named the 1991 SWC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.
He is the program’s career record holder in field goal percentage (63.6%) and blocked shots (345). He ranks ninth in career scoring (1,674 points) and third in rebounds (886).
Miller was drafted in the first round of the 1992 Draft by the Phoenix Suns with the No. 22 overall pick. He played eight years in the NBA, which included stints with the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings. His post-NBA career included several playing stops, including internationally, American Basketball Association teams in Little Rock and two stints with the Harlem Globetrotters.
Miller joins Sidney Moncrief (2014), Nolan Richardson (2014), Eddie Sutton (2014), Todd Day (2015), Joe Kleine (2016), Lee Mayberry (2016), Ron Brewer (2017), Darrell Walker (2017) and Marvin Delph (2018) as inductees to the SWC Hall of Fame from the Arkansas men’s basketball program.
