SAMMAMISH, Washington (Kyodo) — Japan’s Miyu Yamashita shot a 2-under 70 Saturday to put herself in a tie for second, two strokes behind South Korea’s Amy Yang, after the third round of the Women’s PGA Championship.

The 22-year-old Yamashita, who topped the JLPGA Tour point rankings the past two years, had three birdies and one bogey for a 5-under 211 total at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, just east of Seattle.

Yamashita was tied with Lauren Hartlage of the United States, who carded a bogey-free 69. Yang turned in a 71.

“I started my round with a good birdie, so I got into a nice rhythm,” Yamashita said. “My shots have been consistent on this narrow golf course. I’ll just concentrate on every shot I’m making and see what happens.”

Among other Japanese players, Hinako Shibuno shot a 73 to fall into a tie for fifth place at 3 under with four others, including American Lexi Thompson, who has decided to retire at the end of this season.
