Electric scooter rider dies in Saskatoon collision

A man is dead after a collision between an electric scooter and a car in Saskatoon on Saturday.

In a news release, Saskatoon Police Service said they received a call about a man lying on Warman Road near Circle Drive around 3 a.m. They found the 25-year-old operator of the scooter, who later died from his injuries.

Officers learned a car was travelling northbound on Warman Road when it collided with the man, and the 38-year-old man who was driving the car was arrested.

Police said he is facing charges relating to fleeing the scene of an accident, impaired driving, and having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg of alcohol causing death and was scheduled to appear in front of a Justice of the Peace on Saturday.

Traffic restrictions put in place for northbound lanes on Warman Road between Hazen Street and Assiniboine Drive were lifted around noon on Saturday, but Saskatoon Police’s major crimes section and collision analyst unit as well as the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are continuing to investigate.
