Sask. RCMP looking for mother and three missing children

Saskatchewan RCMP is asking for help to find a mother and three children missing from Ontario since December 2023, who may be staying at campgrounds and parks in Saskatchewan.

In a news release on Saturday, police said that on June 21 they received a report of an abandoned vehicle at Pine Cree Regional Park — in the Cypress Hills between Shaunavon and Eastend.

Police said the white 2018 Mercedes GLC is linked to 55-year-old Astrid Schiller, who is wanted by Durham Regional Police for child abduction on a 2023 warrant.

Police said in the release there was no evidence to determine the children are in imminent danger and an Amber Alert is not being issued.

Schiller and the three missing children — Leon, aged 12; Christopher, 11; and nine-year-old Thomas — were not with the vehicle and police said the last possible sighting of the group was on June 19 in Pine Cree Regional Park. Saskatchewan RCMP said the group were also in Assiniboia in the past week.

The group were recently in Manitoba, where Boissevain RCMP received a report of them being at Boissevain border crossing at 2 a.m. on June 16.

Officers then took the three children into care, and arrested Schiller on the Ontario warrant. Schiller was later released from custody as the warrant was not extended into Manitoba, police said.

Then, on June 17 at 1:25 a.m., Blue Hills RCMP were told the three children were no longer in care in Forrest, Manitoba, and were believed to be with Schiller, who was identified as driving the Mercedes later found in Saskatchewan.

Schiller’s warrant does not extend into Saskatchewan, police added.

The Toronto Sun reported in January, citing Press Progress, that Schiller is an ardent parents’ rights activist and member of the Stand4Thee Facebook group, which embraces a slew of theories and stand opposed to a variety of health and educational initiatives.

Anyone with any information who has seen Schiller and her three children in the past week is asked to call 310-RCMP or 911 in an emergency or to report it to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at saskcrimestoppers.com.
