Tornadoes possible off Lake Huron

Environment Canada is tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado.

The national weather agency issued a marine tornado warning just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the Upper Great Lakes and said caution should be exercised in the Lake Huron area.

A tornado warning has also been issued for Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Southern Bruce County, Bruce Peninsula – Sauble Beach – Tobermory and Owen Sound.

Environment Canada said damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

We’re reminded that tornadoes are often wrapped in rain, and my not be visible.

If threatening weather approaches we are advised to take cover immediately.

“If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately, read the statement from Environment Canada.”

Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.
