Toronto Pearson Prepares for Busy Summer Travel Season, Welcoming Millions of Passengers
Toronto Pearson International Airport is gearing up for its busiest travel season, anticipating millions of passengers this summer. In collaboration with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), and the United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP), the airport authority shared travel tips for the summer months.
The airport expects over 160,000 passengers per day during peak travel days, marking an 8% increase from 2023. Additionally, the busiest summer days will see more than 1,100 flights, a 3% rise from last year. While July and August are the peak months, June has already seen a rise in travelers, with high volumes expected to continue into September.
Passengers are encouraged to utilize digital tools to streamline their travel experience during peak periods:
- YYZ Express: An online reservation system that allows travelers to book a spot in the security line up to 72 hours in advance, ensuring shorter wait times.
- Mobile Passport Control: A USCBP app for digitally submitting information for a smoother departure experience for US-bound travelers.
- Viscount Station Drop-off: Avoid terminal curbside congestion by dropping passengers at Viscount station, with a free train service to Terminal 1 and 3.
- Live Wait Times Dashboard: Provides real-time information on wait times at the airport.
- Peak Travel Times Dashboard: Informs travelers if they are passing through during particularly busy times.
- Advance Declaration: Offered by CBSA, this service allows travelers to submit customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours in advance, providing access to an express lane in the customs area.
- Online Parking Reservation: Registering online guarantees a parking spot ahead of time.
- Follow on X: For major operational updates.
Travelers should continue to arrive at the airport three hours before international flights and two hours before domestic flights.
