Do you agree with NFL Throwback’s Mount Rushmore of Seahawks?
The NFL Throwback YouTube channel released its Mount Rushmore for all 32 teams. You probably only care about the Seattle Seahawks, so let’s skip right to their Seattle selections:
- QB Russell Wilson (2012-2021)
- WR Steve Largent (1976-1989)
- LT Walter Jones (1997-2009)
- LB Bobby Wagner (2012-2021, 2023)
If you’re unfamiliar with Mount Rushmore as an American landmark, there are four sculptures of former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. “Mount Rushmore” sports exercises are essentially just naming the four best and/or most important players in franchise or league history. I suppose you could do a Mount Rushmore of worst players, too. Maybe I’ll try that out as an Open Field topic one of these days.
Anyway, Wilson and Wagner are still active but playing for other teams, whereas Largent and Jones are long retired but never played a down for anyone but the Seahawks. Those two are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Wagner will eventually get there, and Wilson is TBD and probably a lot less of a slam dunk given how recent seasons have gone.
Whatever you think of Wilson in recent years, his status as the best quarterback in Seahawks history is inarguable, and his success likely paved the way for the likes of Kyler Murray and Bryce Young to be No. 1 overall picks. Largent is one of the greatest receivers to ever play the game and his Seahawks records may be close to untouchable. Big Walt was once described by the late John Madden as the best player in the entire NFL. He marveled at his athleticism and dominant as a franchise left tackle. Bobby Wagner made an instant impact as a rookie and finished behind Luke Kuechly in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. Wagner at his best was either close to the top spot or the actual best inside linebacker in the sport.
Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman, Kenny Easley, Earl Thomas, Cortez Kennedy, and many others could’ve been included, but there’s only room for so many!
Who would be on your Seahawks Mount Rushmore? You only get four, so there are some tough choices that must be made. Share in the comments below!
