Cricket league against drugs begins in Bathinda – Times of India

Bathinda: Bathinda police on Friday started the Anti-Drug Cricket League at the police lines here to spread awareness against drug abuse through sports. Sixteen teams are participating in the tournament.The matches will be played under floodlights between 6 pm and 11 pm, said the police, adding that eight matches would be played over the next three days till Sunday. The winners will receive prize money of Rs 11,000.“We launched this tournament with a holistic approach and 140 teams from across the district applied to participate in it. Only 16 teams were to be selected so we had an Herculean task ahead of us. The selection process was done by involving senior members of society. Surprisingly, we had more teams from rural areas compared to urban areas,” said Bathinda SSP Deepak Pareek. “We have involved many stakeholders in this tournament, including doctors and artists, as doctors will highlight the ill-effects of drugs during intervals in the matches,” he added.
