Two funeral homes have joined forces to become Newfoundland and Labrador’s first funeral co-operative.
Noel’s Funeral Home in Carbonear and Green’s funeral Home in Winterton are merging to become Sunrise Funeral Co-operative.
They say this province is the only one in Atlantic Canada not to have a funeral co-op. They also exist in Quebec and Ontario.
The Canadian network currently has around 40 co-ops with nearly 300,000 members.
They are encouraging communities to become a part of the project, which they believe will help tailor funeral services to people’s needs and keep ownership local.
