Delaware Park moves up Saturday post time because of heat

Delaware Park moved its post time for Saturday’s first race up an hour to 11:30 a.m. EDT because of extreme heat forecasted for the area.

There will be approximately a half-hour in between each race on the seven-race card, the track said in a news release.

The post time for the first race on Wednesday and Thursday will remain at 12:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service forecast for Wilmington, Del., called for a high temperature of 90 degrees Wednesday and 92 degrees Thursday. Saturday’s high is expected to be 95 degrees with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms.

Delaware Park conducts live racing on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for most of the 2024 meet. Friday cards will be added to the schedule on Aug. 2, Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Oct. 11. Live racing is not scheduled on Thursday, July 11. Closing day for the live racing season is Oct. 12.

Other tracks that have changed their post times because of the heat wave include Finger Lakes, Presque Isle Downs and Woodbine.
