Rachel McAdams Wears a Translucent Black Dress at the 2024 Tony Awards

Rachel McAdams looked glamorous as she arrived to the 77th annual Tony Awards.

The actor walked the red carpet in a sheer black gown, accenting her look with a stack of sparkling rings and bracelets. Her dress, which featured an asymmetrical silver satin neckline and plunging back, appeared one-shouldered but was actually held up by two spaghetti straps. The translucent ensemble showed off McAdams’ bust and toned stomach, while the skirt draped into an elegant train with black satin trim.

While the look’s train didn’t allow for a good look at her footwear, the actor accessorized with lots of bling. Her white manicure was accentuated by multiple chunky diamond rings, and multiple diamond bracelets decorated her wrist. To let the neckline of the dress shine, she went without a necklace—instead opting for a pair of dangling diamond earrings.

McAdams complemented her minimal ensemble with a matching glam. She wore her brown hair down in a middle part with loose waves, and highlighted her eyes with a shimmery gold eyeshadow and a touch of black mascara. A simple pink lipstick finished off her look.

The actor is up for her first Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. She plays the title role in Mary Jane, and in her performance as a single mother caring for her sick child, she does not leave the stage for the entirety of the show’s 90-minute running time.

In a statement sent to Playbill earlier this year, McAdams responded to her nomination with extreme gratitude. “Playing Mary Jane has been the role of a lifetime and I am so honored to bring her story to the stage every day,” she said. “I am so grateful to Amy and [director] Anne [Kauffman] and the entire cast and crew for trusting me in this process and to be embraced by the theater community is such a humbling experience. Thank you Thank you Thank you!”
