Severe storm risk bubbles onto parts of the Prairies Saturday – The Weather Network

The strongest among them could produce large hail, strong wind gusts, and heavy rainfall.

There is also enough instability present in the atmosphere to present the risk for supercells to form, some of which could have rotation. As such, there is a risk for isolated tornadoes along the international border in southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba.

A second low-pressure system tracking into central Saskatchewan on Saturday will also bring widespread, non-severe thunderstorms across Alberta later in the day. While the storms are expected to stay non-severe, there is still a risk for heavy rain and small hail.

Remain alert for watches and warnings through the day, and stay close to safe shelter in case thunderstorms loom on the horizon.

Looking ahead, much of the Prairies can expect a chilly start to the week behind a cold front, with temperatures returning to near seasonal by the summer solstice on Thursday.
