Friday works: Top 3-year-olds are among 22 stakes winners on tab

Two early Kentucky Derby favorites – Florida Derby winner Fierceness and Rebel Stakes winner Timberlake – were among 22 graded stakes winners posting workouts on Friday morning. Fierceness breezed a half mile in 50.89 seconds at Saratoga in his first work since May 24, while Timberlake breezed a half mile in 48 seconds at Churchill Downs. It was only his second work since finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby on March 30.

Fierceness (City of Light), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Florida Derby, 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile), worked four furlongs in 50.8 seconds at Saratoga on Friday morning. It was the 13th fastest of 18 works at the distance. His previous work was 21 days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed 15th in the Kentucky Derby going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 4 for trainer Todd Pletcher.
