Reports of a drunk man wielding a machete triggered a quick response from RCMP earlier this week.
It happened in the community of Makinsons on Wednesday morning.
Police got a call that an intoxicated man was walking along the main road swinging the large sword at around 8:30 in the morning.
Officers responded and quickly found the man who they say was causing a disturbance in a public place.
Forty-eight-year-old Jeffrey Paul Whelan from nearby Cupids was arrested, appeared in court, and was later released on conditions.
He faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and causing a disturbance.
That’s in addition to other charges he was already facing, including refusing to comply with a demand and mischief related to property.
Whelan is due back in Harbour Grace provincial court on September 10.
