US spokesperson Matthew Miller asked a question about the US vs Pakistan cricket match where US emerged victorious
Last week, in the ongoing T20 World Cup when the USA defeated Pakistan in a nail-biting match. This extremely unlikely result stunned fans all over the world. The match took place at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on June 6. Both teams tied at 159 runs, leading to a Super Over, where the USA won by 5 runs.
In a press conference, the United States’ spokesperson, Mathew Miller, was asked a question about the match by a Pakistani reporter. Miller’s response left plenty of people amused and everyone in the room giggling.
“I often get in trouble when I try to comment on things beyond my area of expertise, and I would say Pakistan’s cricket team is certainly in that category,” said US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller, on being asked about the USA beating Pakistan.
As a one-time world champion, Pakistani fans, ex-cricketers, and experts were disappointed with this result, especially because the team was guilty of dropping catches and misfielding in crucial situations throughout the game. On the other hand, the victory was rather sweet for the United States, who never expected it.
Later on Sunday, Pakistan again lost to India in a low-scoring match. Thus far, Pakistan’s performance in the tournament has been deplorable.
This is a historic feat for the US as it is hosting a major ICC cricket tournament for the first time, and defeating a seasoned team like Pakistan signals the potential for them to flourish in this sport.
India and the US are now at the top in Group A, aiming to qualify for the Super 8 level. Standing third at the moment, Pakistan’s fate now depends on multiple factors, including a victory in their last match against Ireland on Sunday.
