‘Hands-On’ Mother of Two, Serena Williams Reveals How She Channeled Tennis Intensity Into an Obsession for Daughters

Serena Williams is the star of every party she attends! Be it her tennis tournaments or her docuseries’ premiere, the spotlight always finds a way to be on her. Retired two years back and a new mom to adorable Adira River Ohanian, Serena’s latest projects again bring her to the question about life post-retirement. The fraternity thought the legend might miss her on-court schedule, but “super hands-on” mommy Serena Williams is “obsessed” with her two adorable daughters while managing her other ventures.

Serena Williams candidly spoke about her post-retirement life in her documentary series In the Arena: Serena Williams‘s Tribeca Festival 2024 premiere. When she was asked about whether she misses her intense days on the professional tennis court, Williams reminded her fans that after her motherhood, she has some more responsibilities to follow.

Oh! well I have my kids now and they’re like my biggest love so I’m obsessed with those kids and I think I put all that intensity that I had in tennis into my children because I’m super hands-on and also have tons of I have a couple of businesses between my venture company and Wyn Beauty, you’re wearing they color I’m like you don’t notice that, so I was like okay but yeah so putting a lot of effort and passion behind things that I’m super passionate about”- she said.

Produced by ESPN, this docuseries aims to feature the unseen side of Serena Williams’ life. From her Compton days in California to her transition to a successful and established tennis player, In the Arena: Serena Williams will present this Olympic gold-medalist former world’s number-one tennis player’s life from a fresh perspective. Something that fans haven’t experienced in King Richard and Being Serena. 

“The most complete, intimate, and compelling account of her legendary career, featuring firsthand perspective from Serena and key figures throughout her life.”- labeled ESPN. Serena Williams’s documentary series will premiere on ESPN+ on the 10th of July. Reliable sources previously revealed that along with her professional journey, this docuseries will show her personal challenges that shaped her to where she stands today.

While taking retirement in August 2022, Serena spoke especially about spending time with her daughter Olympia and continuing with her business ventures. While she never mentioned sitting back at home and relaxing, her family always seemed like her first priority. In an interview with Celebitchy.com, Williams revealed her wish to have more kids.

I definitely want to have more kids, it’s just like, balance is key, you know, and just trying to find that balance. I don’t know, it’s always like, OK, are we ready? And I know the clock is ticking so I’m just like OK, I need to figure out when that’s going to be, but hopefully soon when I will feel no pressure”- she said. Now following her two daughters, Williams has been busy like never before.

Nevertheless, Serena Williams’s statements express that Tennis might have been her biggest passion but nothing came to her before Olympia and Adira. In fact, Williams also spoke about how she wishes this documentary series to bring out a unique perspective of her character to her two adorable daughters.

In an interview with Access.com, Williams delved deeper about what are the things that charged her to work on this project. While she admitted her intense love for tennis, Williams surprised all by speaking about how her documentary was also an honest attempt to reveal her different side to her daughters.

That was the biggest thing when I was creating this documentary was the fact that my daughters would get to see it and have an opportunity to see this whole new side of me that maybe I won’t be able to explain thoroughly through stories, To put all of this story on camera was a super huge motivation for me”- she said.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner’s revelations about her obsession with her kids are inspiring for all the mothers out there struggling to balance work and family. It is also a lesson for those mothers willing to give up careers for their kids. Serena Williams showcases that she might be the former world’s number-one tennis player but post-retirement she only aims to be the world’s number-one mommy to Olympia and Adira.
