Thursday works: 16 graded-stakes winners are on the tab

Lightly raced Sweet Azteca, gate-to-wire winner of the Grade 1 Beholder Mile in her most recent start March 9, worked at Santa Anita on Thursday for trainer Michael McCarthy.

The 4-year-old Sharp Azteca filly went four furlongs in 49.0 seconds, the fifth fastest of 25 at the distance.

Sweet Azteca debuted as a 3-year-old last May, winning a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs. She didn’t return until January, when she was third in the Las Flores (G3). She then won an optional-claiming allowance by 12 lengths before the Beholder Mile.
