Men’s Basketball Announces Signing of Amir McMillian – West Texas A&M University Athletics

CANYON, Texas – On Tuesday, West Texas A&M men’s basketball and head coach Tom Brown announced the signing of Amir McMillian.

McMillian comes to WT after playing his high school career at Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas where he helped the Eagles to a Class 6A state tournament appearance. During his senior campaign, McMillian averaged 12 points, three assists, and two steals per game to earn 6A All-Region, THSCA Super Elite Team, All-State Tournament, and TABC All-State honors. McMillian played on the Eagles’ varsity squad all four years, reaching the playoffs each year.

Matt Wester – Lake Ridge High School

“Amir is a gym rat who works tremendously hard to be great!  His ability to change speeds and create scoring opportunities is elite. Really excited about his future in basketball, WT is getting a player!!”

Tom Brown – West Texas A&M
“Amir McMillian is a very solid student athlete who played in a great program at Mansfield Lake Ridge. His team had a very successful season and Amir was a big part of their success.  Amir has the ability to play right away for us this coming year. He is a player that will push the pace for our squad as he is very good changing ends. He will exert a lot of pressure on our opponents’ defense. Amir is a team player that makes others around him better. We are very excited to have him on our team this coming year. With the departure of two very solid players to the portal, we really needed a dynamic player like Amir. I think Buff fans will really enjoy watching him and our team play this coming year!”

McMillian joins a West Texas A&M program which is coming off back-to-back Lone Star Conference regular season titles. WT is also coming off another Elite Eight performance, its 4th in the past 8 seasons. The Buffs, led by three seniors in Larry Wise, Ryland Holt and Zach Toussaint, finished 30-5 overall and made the NCAA Division II Final Four.
