FLORIDA TODAY 2024 Boys Tennis Player of the Year

Frederic Tu had a more perfect season than even his Holy Trinity teammates, and that was quite a year on a team that beat all the rest in Brevard County and reached the FHSAA Class 1A state semifinal round.

Tu went unbeaten in singles and doubles through a combined 19 regular-season matches and then stayed the course in No. 1 singles through the postseason regional and state brackets.

He is the 2024 FLORIDA TODAY Boys Tennis Player of the Year.

Public school coaches pick: Jack Lindstrom leads 2024 all-conference boys tennis

Tu played at No. 1 singles for the Tigers team that not only was perfect in the area but swept every match against all but one local opponent. He was the District 7-1A No. 1 singles champion and teamed with Ryder Collins to win the No. 1 doubles title. They had gone 9-0 in the regular season.

His team didn’t lose until the FHSAA state tournament. Furthermore, In the Class 1A state semifinal team meeting with No. 1 seed True North Classical Academy of Miami, Tu was the only Tigers player to win at singles. His team exited the field with a 4-1 defeat.

Jirad Abdul, Eighth-grader, Cocoa Beach: Went 10-4 in No. 1 singles matches through District 7-1A tournament play.

Artiom Anzhilov, Senior, Florida Prep: District 7-1A runner-up at No. 1 singles. Just two No. 1 singles losses during regular season.

Ryder Collins, Freshman, Holy Trinity: Teamed with Frederic Tu to reach FHSAA Class 1A doubles bracket championship. Unbeaten in singles or doubles in regular season or district tournament

Jack Lindstrom, Sophomore, Satellite: Reached Class 2A singles bracket final. District 8-2A champion. Combined 18-2 in singles and doubles.

Frederic Tu, Junior, Holy Trinity: Unbeaten in singles or doubles against Brevard County competition this season. Led Tigers to Class 1A state tournament. District 7-1A champion.

Eric Yang, Sophomore, West Shore: Went 8-3 in regular-season singles and 8-4 in doubles. One of three locals to win a game off Tu.
