Shortly after its release, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is already breaking franchise records. The fourth movie in the action-comedy franchise, Ride or Die stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as two buddy cops attempting to preserve the good memory of their Captain as he’s framed for corruption. It was released on June 7 and is already proving to be fairly successful at the box office, having earned a projected $53 million in its opening weekend. Considering Bad Boys 4‘s high budget, that is essential for it eventually achieving success.

With a 97% Rotten Tomatoes audience score at the time of writing, Ride or Die has become the highest-rated movie in the Bad Boys franchise. It sits just above Bad Boys for Life, which earned a 96% score. Though the results may fluctuate as more viewers see Ride or Die in the coming weeks, it is an excellent audience reception so early in its run.

The Bad Boys Franchise’s Rotten Tomatoes Streak Explained

Bad Boys Has Been Improving Its Audience Score

Bad Boys‘ Rotten Tomatoes scores have been improving for years, not just with audiences, but also with critics. While Ride or Die is not the most critically acclaimed movie in the franchise, it has earned the love of audiences. With its 97% score, it sits at one point higher than Bad Boys for Life and 19 points higher than Bad Boys and Bad Boys II. No Bad Boys movie has ever had under 75% among audiences, but the significant jump in audience score came after directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah took the lead of the franchise from Michael Bay. The Tomatometer score, which is determined by reactions from critics, is not quite as high. Only one Bad Boys movie, Bad Boys for Life, has ever had over 75% on the Tomatometer. Ride or Die sits at a more mixed-to-positive 64% Tomatometer score, while Bad Boys had a 44% score and Bad Boys II has a rotten 24%. Bad Boys: Ride or Die still has mixed reviews, though the recent scores have been more positive than they were in the ’90s or the early 2000s.

Should Bad Boys 5 ever happen, the positive streak may continue, but it will be difficult to improve on the existing audience score. With a 97% score, there are only three more points until it reaches perfection, which can be exceptionally difficult for popular blockbuster movies. The average audience rating is an incredible 4.7 out of 5, and growing from there will not result in a major score jump. Bad Boys: Ride or Die is already standing out as a popular movie among audiences, just barely beating Bad Boys for Life‘s own score.
